I equipped the best set of clothing, the second bandit’s shield, and his puny axe, and set out once more. I was able to loot both sets of clothing the bandits wore, and oddly a third, better set as well. So don’t loot on the battlefield kids (except for survival purposes).

The looted weapon/armor did not appear in my inventory either, the game just ATE them. Of note, in the post-battle loot I DID NOT receive the looted shield and spear I used during the fight, only the shield and little axe the second bandit had. I was then able to loot his shield and spear thing, which made the second bandit much easier to defeat. Blocking without a shield was impossible, so I had to kite the bandit, try to flank him using bits of the environment, and stab him about 10 times, but he went down. It must have looked like something out of Benny Hill as I ran around the bandit camp jumping between tents and over wagons and stacks of barrels until I got one of the bandits stuck on something, making it a one on one fight with the other bandit. On the fourth try, I was actually able to win a fight with 2 bandits. They dragged me around a bit, let me go, and I was immediately attacked by another three bandit types. They had axes and shields, I had what appears to be a pocket knife.

The rest of the quests I take from West Seaxe mayors, for the Saxon nobles.Bought this in the Steam Autumn Sale and fired it up over the past couple of evenings. So I raise my relations with the cities which provide the troops I want, which happens to be Saxon nobles (the type of spearmen who are the best at holding a shield wall) and Norse huscarls (the type of swordsmen who are the best at flanking shield walls)įor example, Jorvick is a good source of Norse troops on Albion, so in the early game, I take most of my city quests from its mayor. Personally, I only recruit tier III infantry (sword or spear, they both have uses) from cities whose population loves me, or anyone on the skirmisher branch from villages, if I want to train skirmishers. Still, faction troops are better, and in order to recruit from a specific fief, you need to get the permission of the noble owner, or to bribe the village elder. sailors from port masters in coastal cities The twenty seven men you can fit on a Snekkja are all you need, at least until you build a refuge where you can garrison troops you do not presently need.īut if you need to recruit, you have a few options, besides faction troops: Let me first say that a large army is more of a hindrance than anything in the early story line.
